We believe that it is extremely important for everyone to learn about the history of adoption and adoption practices in the United States as well as learning and listening to the stories of the women who relinquished children, many under duress and due to societal pressures or lack of resources and support.
We highly suggest reading the following two books:
2.The Girls Who Went Away by Ann Fessler Even though The Girls Who Went Away is based on interviews from mothers from the Baby Scoop Era (WW2 to 1970’s)
Many of the mothers from the 1970’s on faced similar obstacles and societal and family stigmas so it is important to understand the context.
